Int. Comic Book Store – Day

Comics are everything, crammed from wall to wall, ceiling to floor. The place is pretty much a dead zone save for a few fat guys in their 30s barely fitting in their Star Wars shirts. The bell jingles and Dan, the owner of this fine establishment, looks up from a Japenese comic to see Sam and Dean in Fed suits and trench coats.

Dan asks if he can help them. Dean says he hopes so and introduces he and Sam as Agent DeYoung and Shaw, and they’d like to ask Dan a few questions. Sam interjects as to whether Dan has noticed anything strange in the building the last few days. Dean adds that some tenants reported flickering lights.

Dan asks what’s strange about that, but Sam ignores the question and asks if Dan’s heard any noises in the walls, kind of like rats. Dan looks at Sam and Dean, curious, and asks why the FBI is investigating rodents. Sam ignores the man again, and asks if Dan’s noticed any cold spots in the room.

Dan’s totally onto the game and says that he knew Dean and Sam were larping. Dean asks what Dan’s talking about, and Dan exclaims that the “feds” are fans. Sam wants to know just what they are supposed to be fans of and Dean really wants to know what the hell larping is.

Dan says not like they don’t know already, but Live Action Role Playing…and he’s impressed with how hardcore they are. Dean says he’s sorry but he ain’t gotta clue what Dan is talking about.

Dan points out that Dean and Sam are dressed just like those guys from the books, the Supernatural books. Sam and Dean exchange a confused glance. Dan continues, saying that its about two guys that use fake IDs with rock aliases, hunt ghosts and the like. He says there names are like…steve and dirk, sal and dane….He takes a long beat, still trying to remember. Sam interjects asking if they are Sam and Dean. Dan excitedly tells him that’s correct.

Dean’s still trying to piece it all together and asks Dan if he really means that he’s read about them, in a book. Dan informs them that it was books, a whole series. Dan goes to a storage bin, telling the boys that the books didn’t sell a lotta copies, had an underground cult following though. Way underground, like nobody read them underground.

Int. Publisher’s House – Day

Sera Siege, 30s, and sole employee of Flying Wiccan Press spells her name out for Sam and Dean, who happen to be standing in front of a Sam and Dean poster. Dean asks if just like que sera sera. And Sera sarcastically replies that she never heard that one before.

Sam states that they heard Sera was the one who published the Supernatural books. Sera walks over to a shelf that’s holding pristine copies of the entire Supernatural series. She gushes that she loved those books and it’s about time somebody did an article on them.

Dean says that’s exactly why they are there. Sera goes on to say that they never got the attention they deserved because people just want to read romance crap. Sexy Doctor MD, etc. Sam chimes in that they were really hoping their article would shine a light on underappreciated series. Sera agrees that some good press and maybe they could start publishing again. Dean gives a long stream of no, no, no, throwing in a God, no, for good measure. Sera gives him a look for that, and Dean covers and says that the series is so complete, what with Dean going to hell and all.

Sera says that was one of her favorites ‘cause Dean was so brave, sad, and strong. And Sam, well, the best parts are when they’d cry. Like in Heart when Sam had to kill Madison, or Dean when he had to call John to help in home. Needless to say, the real Sam and Dean are getting a little uncomfortable with the show of emotion.

Sera states that she wishes real men could be as open and in touch with their feelings and asks how often Dean cries like that. Dean returns that he’s so crying on the inside right about now. Sera wants to know if that’s supposed to be a joke, and Dean says that the whole thing is funny. Sera’s suspicious now and wants to know if the boys really are legit.

Dean tells her to trust him, they are sooo legit. Sera says that she needs to know they’ll be respectful, can’t have them making fun of ‘her’ boys. Sam reassures her that they would never do that. They are actually big fans. Sera isn’t sure they are telling the truth, and Dean says that they’ve read the books cover to cover.

Open door for Sera, and she’s about to give a pop quiz. She asks what the year and model of the car is and Dean replies with 1967 Impala bought used by John in 1973, and restored in 2006. Sera says July 19th and Sam says that’s his—well, Sam’s birthday. Dean points out that well, Dean’s is March 1st.

Sera commends them but asks what Sam’s score was on the LSATs. Dean has no friggen’ clue, and Sam has to reach back to remember, but manages to come up with 174. Sera’s next inquire is to Dean’s favorite song. Dean answers saying its “Whole Lotta Love” original recording with Page’s backwards echo. Dean points to Sam and tells Sera that “Sam” is into emo crap.

Sera is clearly satisfied and asks just what would the brothers like to know. Sam says they want to know who Carver Edlund really is—his real name. Sera tells them she can’t give that up, the man is very private, like Salinger.

Sam unbuttons his shirt, Sera’s eyes widening as Sam reveals the tattoo. Sam asks her again, saying really, they are BIG fans. Sera nods then turns to Dean who gives Sam a drop dead glare as he removes his shirt, showing his own tattoo. Sera says that’s awesome and starts to unbutton her pants to show Sam and Dean she’s got an identical one too.

Dean stops her, says that they can just take her word for it. Sera’s only a little disappointed she doesn’t get to participate in show and tell, but gives the boys the writer’s real name: Chuck Shurley, with a warning that the man’s a genius and don’t piss him off.

Ext. Chuck’s House – Day

Chuck is staring into the trunk of the Impala. He asks if those are real guns and Dean says that it is, and that’s real rock salt and real fake IDs in there too. Chuck’s really trying not to freak out and says that he’s gotta hand it to the guys for being number one fans. He thinks he’s got some posters in the house for them if they want. Dean says they don’t want posters, and Chuck offers a calendar. Dean tells the man to just stop.

Chuck asks if Dean is gonna hurt him, and Dean replies that he ain’t so sure yet. Chuck tries to convince Dean that he’s having what’s called a psychotic break, and Dean informs Chuck he ain’t crazy. Chuck backtracks and takes it back, but begs Dean not to kill him. Sam cuts Chuck’s begging off and asks just how much does Chuck know about the angels, Lilith, and the breaking of the seals.

Chuck is terrified by the question asks how they know about that. Dean points out the better question is how Chuck knows about that. Chuck says he kept writing even after the publisher went bankrupt but those books were never published. Dean yanks up his sleeve and reveals a handprint scar.

Dean says that Castiel pulled him outta the pit and has been on his case ever since. Chuck says that none of this is possible and can’t be happening. Sam says it is happening and they are the real Sam and Dean. Chuck’s jaw drops, he admits that he never put that name in the books, ever. It was in his head, but he never told anyone.

Int. Chuck’s House – Kitchen - Day

Chuck is sitting at the kitchen table drinking down a shot of whiskey while the boys look on. He closes his eyes and opens them again only to have Dean inform him they are not hallucinations. The author sighs and informs the boys he must be a God since his writing is coming to life.

Dean shakes his head and tells him he's not a God but Chuck isn't buying it. He tells the boys he's sorry about all the things he's put the through--the physical beatings, killing their father, buring their mother, killing Sam's girlfiend and for what? He toys with their lives and emotions for the sake of entertainment.

Sam and Dean both try to tell the obviously inebriated man that he didn't create them. A look of horror crosses the man's face as he asks them if they really had to live through "Bugs" and the "Ghost Ship" stories. When Dean shrugs and answers yes the author shudders before he once again apologizes. He tells Sam and Dean if he'd only known that they'd be forced to live through some of his horrible writing, he'd have taken more time to make the storylines better.

Once again Sam and Dean try to convince Chuck that he didn't create them. Sam suggest he may be psychic but the author laughs and tells them if that were true he wouldln't be wriing. After all writing is hard. If he were a psychic he would be playing the horses or pick the winning lottery number. Sam once again tries to explain to Chuck that he may not be that kind of psychic but rather one that is somehow tuned into their lives. However Dean wants to get to the important question--he asks Chuck what he's working on now.

Ext. Street – Day

Dean’s eyes blink open. A women declares that the elder Winchester is waking up and looks like he’s gonna be okay. She hovers over him, sun glinting off a pair of star earrings on either side of her face. Dean manages to mutter stars.

The woman is confused, and points out that Dean’s a little disoriented. Dean manages to get to a shaky stand and the Woman that was driving the Minivan apologizes profusely saying that she just didn’t see him and ask if he’s okay. Dean’s still not 100 % and sees the woman, the stars, and her 6 year old daughter. Dean reaches up and touches his face.

The Minivan Woman apologizes saying her daughter is going through a doctor phase, and the little girl informs Dean that he’s all better now.

Ext./Int. Chuck’s House -- Day

Chuck returns to his house to find the door open and Dean sitting in his favorite chair. He notes the hunter looks terrible. Without missing a beat, Dean looks up and informs him that it's because he was just hit by a mini-van. Chuck backs up as Dean demands to know what Chuck isn't telling them. Chuck tells him he doesn't know, he just does it. Frustrated, Dean grabs the author and slams him up against the wall as he continues to demand answers.

Ext. Impala

Sam and Dean are heading out of town when a cop stops them. The road is blocked and they're told there is no way out of the area. Dean desperately asks if there is any way to detour around the road block but the Cop firmly tells him there is no. He informs them they'll have to spend the night in town until the trouble is cleared up. Dean turns the Impala around and heads back into town.

Int. Diner.

Sam and Dean take a seat in the local Diner. The waitress recommends the bacon cheeseburger but to Sam's amusement Dean declines and asks for the veggie Tofu burger. She delivers their meal as Dean tells Sam they need to pick their battles and lay low for a bit. However as he bites into his Tofu burger he can't believe how good it tastes. He begins to tell Sam he can't believe Tofu burgers could taste this good until the waitress comes up to apologize. It seems she gave him a bacon cheeseburger by mistake...

Int. Toreador Motel – Night

Sam is face to face with Lilith. She asks where the knife is and Sam tells her it’s on the nightstand, next to the bed. Lilith walks toward the bed, and stops suddenly. She gives Sam an irritated look and pulls back a corner of the rug exposing a Devil’s Trap. Lilith burns a corner of it off—the trap is useless now.

Lilith informs Sam that he’s going to have to try a lot harder than that and Sam takes the challenge, raising his arms and hits Lilith with all the brain ninja mojo he’s got packed away under that forehead. Lilith’s hair blows back a bit, but other than that, the demon chica is unfazed. She’s amused at Sam’s shock.

Lilith admits that Sam’s strong, but he’s not too strong. Not yet anyway. Sam asks why Lilith doesn’t just throw him around, and Lilith circles around Sam, but admits that they are at a stalemate because her mojo doesn’t work on Sam either.

Sam wants to know why Lilith is here and she tells him its just to talk. Sam makes it clear he’s not interested and Lilith asks him if he still feels that way even if she’s offering to stop, stop the seals, stop the apocalypse…all of it. Sam doesn’t believe her and Lilith says that she ain’t surprised ‘cause Sam’s the smart one. But Lilith chooses to show her hand and tells Sam that it’s the truth. Sam can end it right now and she’ll stop breaking the seals, and let Lucifer rot. All Sam has to do is agree to her terms.

Sam inquires if Lilith is offering him a deal. And oh, she so is. Lilith says that Sam has his prophecy. She has her own, but as it turns out, she doesn’t survive this war. She’s killed off right before the good part starts. Sam points out that Lilith’s never been the one for self-sacrifice, and Lilith admits that she does all the work and is gonna end up killed because Lucifer wants to be the boss. In her opinion, Lucifer can solve his own problems.

Sam asks what’s the terms and Lilith answers that she wants it all to go back to the way it was before she had Angels to deal with. Sam presses as to what she wants from him, and Liliths says she wants Sam to die, and Dean too. ‘Cause once the angels are gone, they are simply gonna be thorns in her side. And secondly, self-sacrificing is the Winchester way, right?

Sam tells her to take the deal somewhere else. Lilith’s surprised and all around not happy with that turn of events. She tells Sam there’s hope for him, gotta be all that demon blood. Sam states that he knows this is a trick, and he can’t believe she’d really think he was stupid enough to fall for it. Lilith says it’s a demon deal, and she’s bound to it, those are the rules. She asks if Sam is really that arrogant he’d let 6 billion people die because he wants to live. Sam grits his teeth, but agrees to the terms. Lilith points out that a contract with her requires more than a kiss, a lot more. She sits on the bed, and just like in Chuck’s vision, pats the bed. Lilith tells Sam not to worry cause her dental hygienist host so wants it.
